US Obsessions

So I’m Canadian. And all shopaholic Canadians know that shopping in the United States means BIG deals. OK.  Maybe not AS amazing right now, given the current dollar situation. But it’s still pretty damn good even when you take the exchange into consideration. Last summer, however, felt like robbery. Our dollar was good, really, really good, and prices were cheap, really, really cheap.

This summer, I had to take it easy on my spending during all of our roadtrips to Montana. Sometimes, even with exchange, you can save money. But it’s important to pay attention and do the calculations quickly to make sure it isn’t smarter to just buy it at home.

Two things I can’t resist buying?? Lip Balm and Gum. Yep. Gum and Lip Balm. Why?! Because the US gets so many cool foods and drinks and limited edition cosmetics that we just don’t get at home.

Every time I go, I find new and glorious beauties. Last year, I fell in love with the Stride Sour Patch Kids line of chewing gum. The year before, Extra Desserts Gum won my tastebuds. This year I screamed with delight when I found the Sour Patch Watermelon Gum. Omg, talk about a taste-gasm.

I’m always way over the top and insist on buying multiple packs to last me through the year. Plus they are so fun to give to my friends. I love that they are sugar free, but totally kick sweet cravings. I’m not lying when I say I have a box (a recycled sephora gift box) filled with fun American gum flavors. Is that weird?!

My other favorite, Lip Balm. A true addiction. Why does the US get all the cool limited edition lines?! Canadians can find them but we have to order them online and spend a small fortune. So I stock up. Why not?! They make great “Happy Day” gifts. “Here have a pack of gum and a Chapstick just because you’re so fucking adorable“. Basically.

My most recent additions:
• Vaseline Creme Brulee
• EOS Lemon Drop SPF 15
• Chapstick MixStix in Strawberry Banana Smoothie & Raspberry Lemon Sorbet*
• Blistex Orange Mango Blast SPF 15
• Chapstick Tropical Paradise Collection in Mango Sunrise
• Chapstick Tropical Paradise Collection in Aloha Coconut
• Chapstick Cupcake Creations Collection in Cake Batter
• Vaseline Rosy Lips

The best things about stocking up on balms is that I’m fully prepared for the dry winter months!! I swear I searched for the Rosy Lips for over a year before I finally tracked it down (and in stock) at Target in Kalispell, MT. Nothing beats Vaseline when your lips are hella chapped. Adding yummy scents like Creme Brulee, or hints of color like Rosy Lips, just makes Vaseline feel like a legit lip treatment. Compared to the days of digging in the entire Vaseline tub, and getting it all over your hands, just for some lip relief.

Chapstick has really stepped up their game. Long gone are the days of Cherry Chapstick. Their new flavors are amazing. I’m loving the LE collections! And they are only $1 USD. ONE DOLLAR?!?!?!? Shut up. The MixStix are so yummy and I love having the option to wear the balms alone or mix them together for a different experience.

Do you have any products that you stock up on when sales are good?! Do you have an obsession?!!

* I have since found the Chapstick MixStix balms in Canada at Shopper’s Drug Mart. I picked up the Carmel Apple one to complete my collection! ♡

The ART Of Makeup

Spotted!!!! Sonia Kashuk’s NEW Spring 2015 line at the Target liquidation in Canada. I was able to find a bunch of these new graphic printed bags for 40% off!!! I had bought some of the bags from the last collection during the clearance, but I had to have these as well, the prints are just so cute. They also had the Fern and Floral line available, but I only grabbed the Face and Lip prints!

image

Is it just me, or does the Face print have a certain Picasso-esque vibe? I’m loving the bold prints and bright colors!

I had to go to a few different locations to round up all of these purchases, but every location I went to had the new prints, in stock, in some form. I’m still saddened by the looming loss over my freshly discovered love for Sonia Kashuk. It was short, but very sweet, affair. ♡♡

Bullseye for Target

image
Target might be leaving Canada forever and they might have terrible clearance deals, but the cosmetics department had pretty good prices on all Sonia Kashuk products. All cosmetics were 30% off and I couldn’t resist a few more SK goodies considering this brand will soon be MIA in Canada. This was my second time around picking up some SK deals and I went to several locations to stock up as much as possible.

Omg! I’m in love with all of these brushes! Leave it to me to find a wonderful new brand right as it is making an exit. So I had to get lots, oops. The sets are such a great deal, pricing the individual brushes a touch over $2 CAD each. The handles have such cute designs!

Another gorgeous print on these makeup bags. So vivid! I got a few to make a cute little travel set. I was going to splurge on the bigger travel organizers but they were still $21 CAD. I will wait and hope they have some closer to the end, for significantly cheaper.

Sonia Kashuk Velvety Matte Lip Crayon (Coraly Nude, Candy Nude, Pinky Nude, Nudey Nude, & Mulberry Nude)
Retail: $7.59 CAD
Steal: $5.31 CAD

This is my new favorite lip product. The color is creamy and pigmented, and truly matte. After buying and trying the Pinky Nude, I knew I had to quickly find more shades. Especially for just over $5 CAD.

These are great quality lip pencils. Great pigment, great payoff, great staying power. Love.

Sonia Kashuk Moisture Luxe Tinted Lip Balm (Hint of Red & Hint of Pink)
Retail: $8.99 CAD
Steal: $6.29 CAD

These balms have the perfect hint of color for easy makeup days, at the gym, or just to put on at home to keep your lips moisturized. I love the packaging. The tube is heavy and metal. They definitely do not feel cheap in the slightest.

Sonia Kashuk Shine Luxe Sheer Lip Color (Sheer Berry)
Retail: $10.99 CAD
Steal: $7.69 CAD

This “Lip Color” is much more like the balms than a lipstick. The color is exactly that, sheer. I’m glad I got this in berry so that it is different from the balms I purchased.

Sonia Kashuk Satin Luxe Lip Color (Classic Red, Parisian Pink, & Nude Pink)
Retail: $9.99 CAD

These lipsticks are wonderful. Creamy. Pigmented. Moisturizing. They have a satin finish and the cutest SK logo carved into the tip. Another LOVE!

Gel liner in a rich, dark cocoa – heaven. I have yet to try this out but the reviews look good, and my swatches looked devine.

Pixi by Petra Tinted Brilliance Balm (Pink)
Retail: $14 CAD
Steal: $9.80 CAD

I loved my Pixi Brilliance Balm I received in my first ever ipsy Glam Bag. Since Target was the only supplier of Pixi, again I just HAD to have one. Right.

Mossimo & Exhilaration Flats

How cute are these flats? Perfect for when spring arrives!!

Mossimo Hinge Clutch
Retail: $16.99 CAD

Oh La La. This clutch is so deceiving, it is actually huge. It holds everything I would need on a night out, including some makeup minis, my Samsung Galaxy S5, and all my cards/cash.

Camelback Chute 1L Water Bottle
Retail: $15.99 CAD
Steal: $3.72 CAD

I’m thinking this deal was a price error, because this is the best deal I have gotten during the clearance, yet. Thanks to my friend for picking this one up. When we saw how cheap it rang up for, I had to grab one for myself!!

Now that’s a Target Haul!! Probably the last one I’ll ever have in Canada. I will check out the stores closer to the end, in May, but I wanted to get some specific brands before they were all gone. Lucky for me, all stores in #yyc got a huge shipment of Sonia Kashuk products, a last hurrah!! I would suggest you hurry your cute ass down there asap and get the last of SK before she’s gone for good!! ♡

Too-da-loo Target

Target Canada’s liquidation has officially kicked off today, with up to 30% off. I’m actually pretty sad that Target is closing country wide after only 2 short years in business. They carried makeup brands that are hard (or impossible) to find anywhere else in Canada, such as NYX, Pixi, and Sonia Kashuk. Luckily, a few other select retailers carry NYX, but I am unaware of anywhere else that carries Pixi or SK.

When Target announced that they would be closing up shop, I went on the hunt for the Butter Balms (yes I was STILL hunting for them as neither London Drugs or Rexall carried them). I was lucky enough to track some down between two different locations. FUCK YES, SUCCESS!!

image

I picked up the shades Red Velvet (the original BB that I received and fell in love with), Parfait, Lady Fingers, and Panna Cotta. These were not on sale, since I got them before the liquidation started, but I knew this would be the last opportunity for me to pick these up in store, in Canada. I’m glad I didn’t wait because all of the best shades were picked over when I went in today.

Starting today (Feb 5th) Target has up to 30% off EVERYTHING, and that included cosmetics (YES!). Personally, I don’t find 30% off to be that amazing, but it does make the products almost as affordable as US prices.
image

I picked up a few NYX lip products that I had been dying to try since I’m so in love with the entire Butter line (balms, lipsicks, and glosses), as well as a Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish, and a Sonia Kashuk brush set.

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Strawberry Jam
Retail: $8.99 CAD
Steal: $6.29 CAD

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa
Retail: $8.99 CAD

I picked up my first Sonia Kashuk product, the Instant Smokey Eye Brush Set. I’m a sucker for new brushes lately and this set had some interesting cuts. I love buying eye brushes for their contouring versatility. The smaller brushes are perfect for contouring details (nose, brow bone, cupid’s bow, etc.).

image

Sonia Kashuk Instant Smokey Eye Brush Set
Retail: $14.99 CAD
Steal: $10.49 CAD

These brushes are dense and full. I love this in a brush, as I find lighter, softer brushes can be tricky to use for darker, bolder eye looks. I also love that they come with a small zippered case, easy for travel, overnights, or to throw in your purse. The set comes with a card that has directions for how to use each brush, I however, make my own damn rules.

Are you running into Target to get some deals before they disappear from Canada forever?? I’m sure the discount will get bigger as time goes on, but everything was so picked over already, that I doubt the best of the cosmetics will last much longer. ♡
