A few of my favorite acronyms in the same sentence. OMG. Have you heard?!? NYX Cosmetics is coming to Shopper’s Drug Mart! Finally. I cried over Target’s tragic goodbye. I hunted down Ulta locations when I was on vacation. And I stalked London Drugs NYX displays hunting for LE items. But no more! Because my favorite store and favorite drugstore brand are making love becoming one.

Rumor has it that Shopper’s did not renew their contract with Almay and instead will be carrying NYX Cosmetics in it’s place. I’m not complaining. Looks like SDM will also be carrying Joe Fresh cosmetic products in 2016.

With a rewards program like Optimum, I have a feeling I will soon be the proud owner of the entire NYX line. Are you as excited as I am?!?! I apologize in advance if you can’t get your hands on any because I’m pretty sure it will all be in my makeup bag.

Life Happens

Shit happens. Life happens. Sometimes it happens all at once. Sometimes it happens one after the other. Sometimes it feels like it will never stop. But the journey is just as important as the destination. Sometimes things happen that we can not control. Sometimes it’s about letting go of the control. That’s my struggle. CONTROL. Control of my life. Control of my body. Control of my finances. Control of my time. Control of my emotions. When I lose control, I feel like I lose my happiness.

Happiness is about letting each moment be what it is, instead of what you think it should be.

That’s my problem, What I think it should be. I have so many expectations, of myself. But when life happens and alters situations, I have incredible difficulty altering my expectations to reflect the situation. When did the pressure to have everything “perfect” get taken so personally? When did I allow “loss of control” to equal “vulnerable”?

Sometimes stressful times need to be held. “Held” in the sense that sometimes we rely on others to carry our emotional burden when we aren’t strong enough to hold it ourselves. I’m a holder. If there is even such a thing. Maybe it’s the psychologist in me, but the people closest to me tend to turn to me first when times get tough. I can handle it. I can be honest. I can be blunt. I genuinely want to help be their emotional support. Why is it that I can be realistic with others, but with myself I’m lacking self empathy? Why is it okay for everyone else to be human, but towards myself I show no compassion? Why can I carry others emotional burdens but never expect anyone to carry mine?

Moral of this rant? When I’m find myself climbing a never ending uphill battle, carrying so much that I can’t possibly carry anymore, I’m going to stop beating myself up over the fact that my arms are full … and just get a wagon.

Extrodinary Rewards, Extrodinary Disappointment

Sephora. You perfectly pissed off the majority of your customers. But I’m sure the never ending complaints via phone and email, clued you in pretty quickly. Yes. I’m talking about the “Extrodinary Rewards” that were released today. Or should I say last night? I’m not sure, since they were released in the middle of the night, the wee hours of the morning.

So here’s my issue. I’m a VIB Rouge member. That means I spend an embarrassing amount of money at Sephora. You would expect that this level of membership would mean you were informed of all special events, promos, and sales. Not the case. I never received a single email about the “Extrodinary Rewards“. I found out about them on Instagram and through a little research. I kept waiting for my email. It never came.

Even if I had received an email, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference because they didn’t give away any details. Sephora simply said to check the Rewards Boutique in the coming days. Great. Thanks, Sephora. It’s more of the point that I spend lots of money at your store, but I get overlooked and don’t receive emails. Leave it to the masterminds, to somehow hack the html code (or something), to figure out that the release date was going to be May 5th. That’s the rumor, but either way SOMEONE, SOMEHOW, did indeed figure out the date.

That brings me to my next complaint. Because the date was released (or leaked), some people waited up ALL night to get a reward. ALL NIGHT. Then, as it turns out, the rewards could not be shipped to Canada. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!!? So after all of that hype, all of that effort, and all of that time, some people couldn’t even redeem the rewards?!?!?!?!?!

As if that wasn’t enough, I got an email at 9:17 am (this morning, May 5th) from Sephora saying that they had released the rewards and to hurry to grab some as quantities were limited. But the kicker here is that 1) all of the rewards had been sold out for hours by this point, and 2) I’m Canadian and they wouldn’t have shipped to me anyways!!! Sephora, WHY are you rubbing all of these beautiful, unattainable rewards in my face?!?!

So no emails for me. No rewards for me. And apparently no rewards for basically anyone else either. I’m extremely pissed off with Sephora. And this isn’t the only reason. I have been Rouge since December and still haven’t gotten an email with a single Rouge exclusive gift with purchase. I used to see these all the time on other blogs when I was just a VIB. I would even buy some of the free gifts on eBay because they were so great (Buxom Lippie Trio, Fresh 4 piece set, etc.). That was one of the things I was looking forward to the most when I finally reached “The Top“. I’m nearly halfway through the year, and have yet to see an exclusive free gift with purchase. Another big factor, is the amount we have to spend to get free gifts or samples. Americans spend $35 USD, us Canadians have to spend $50 CAD. It’s been like this for years, even when the dollar was pretty much identical (give or take a cent or two) for both country’s. But there is more! Make your Canadian order online, and you will only be awarded your rewards points based on the AMERICAN price. The bigger the order, the more points you lose. Sometimes it is worth it to take the points cut based on free offers, but most of the time, it’s most beneficial to buy your products in store. If you need another reason for why I’m hating so hard, Canadians can’t use gift cards online! Often products are released online early, exclusively for Rouge members. If you have a gift card, you can forget about getting that product early, and you will have to wait until it’s released in store for everyone else.

If you are Canadian, or just a frequent reader of my blog, you know about the Shopper’s Optimum Rewards program. I did the math and if I stick to buying only during bonus events, like 20× The Points, and redeem my points only during Super Spend Events, I can get $290 CAD in product after spending only $600 CAD. That’s nearly a 50% return!!! Why would I spend that money at Sephora when I get barely anything back for my loyalty? When they leave me out of emails? When they release rewards in the middle of the night in such small quantities. I think I’ll be taking the majority of my beauty spending to Shopper’s/Murale. They give lots and lots of notice about events and rewards. Hell, they even publish it every week in a flyer!!

So Sephora, this is my “it’s not me, it’s you” speech (this and the email I sent this morning – haha!). Get your act together before my Rouge expires in December. Otherwise, I will be happy to be nothing more than a BI to you. And I’ll only stop in for my free bday gift. Did I make myself clear!??

Keeping Up With The Kardashians …

Is hard!!! Really hard. I mean first you have a 16 year old rocking what may or may not be lip injections. Then you have the one known for her sex tape saying she regrets making it, yet flashing her pussy vagina all over the Internet, and lastly you have the patriarch of the family, fighting to become the … matriarch? Let’s not even get started on the one who hides until he emerges for a McDonald’s trip. I mean lots of money means nutritionists, cooks, and trainers – who couldn’t lose weight with a team of weight loss allies? Okay. Okay. I might be a little harsh. But seriously, who has the time to keep up with the Kardashians??

First, let’s talk about Bruce. Bruce Jenner, the Olympic Athlete/Motivational Speaker turned woman. Allegedly. I mean maybe he is, maybe he isn’t, but if a mini doc series and an interview with Diane Sawyer have anything to do with this, I’m assuming maybe he is. Jenner recently had a laryngeal shave to flatten out his Adam’s Apple because he says “I just never liked my trachea”, he has been photograpphed wearing nail polish (see below), he has grown out his hair, and his own mother has spoken up saying he is indeed transitioning. I couldn’t imagine how difficult it would be to come out as a Transgender individual, let alone come out with the whole world watching. I sometimes wonder how much of Hollywood is scripted. Not the shows or the movies, but their supposed “real lives”. Is it coincidence that Jenner is going through this right before the (supposed) last season of KUWTK is about to air? Is it really probable that all these crazy things happen to one family? I’m not going to go as far as to say that Bruce isn’t really Transgender, but maybe he has been open about it for a lot longer than we believe, and so timed his “coming out”, with the break between filming the next season of the show.

With the Kardashians everybody has their turn at scandal. But ironically, it seems to happen one after the other, with minimal trainwrecks occurring at once. Of course the younger generation Jenner girls grew up with this spotlight, so it will be interesting to see if they follow in the footsteps of other stars who grew up in the public’s eye like Amanda Bynes, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan etc. Without getting to deep into it, kids in the spotlight don’t mature the same way as kids who are not. Eventually, the pressure of being constantly scrutinized becomes too much and supports are not in place to handle these situations. Is it really a coincidence that we find these young people with mental illness and/or drug addictions? The youngest Jenner, Kylie is the center of attention lately with questions about if her lips are real or not. She is 16. And possibly already a victim of the pressure of Hollywood. I mean you can only over line your lips so much. I’m not going to debate on whether or not she had lip injections (you can look below and decide for yourself) but the very idea of a surgeon working on a minor for purely cosmetic purposes, is beyond terrifying.

Kim. Yes, she’s beautiful. Yes, she has a killer body. And yes, I have applauded her before for baring it all regardless of other’s opinions. And I still do. Again in her latest (but very odd) photoshoot she is naked. I think we, as a society, are way too paranoid about nudity especially when we are fuelled by sexuality; in ads, in TV, in books, in music, everywhere! However, what rubs me the wrong way, is that in the mentioned LOVE Magazine shoot, the accompanying article mentions how Kim says she regrets her sex tape:

If I do have one regret in life, that’s it.

Meanwhile, you can flip the page and see her completely naked, pussy flaps, labia majora and all. I’m not saying the act of sex and nudity are the same thing because they are not. However, this shoot has a very dark sexual tone to it, for me it bordered on “cheap motel prostitute” type of feel. So saying you regret your sex tape, while being overly naked and sexual, is a little too condensing for me. Let’s not even get started on how people only recognized Kim K’s name after seeing the tape. I wish she would just own it. It happened. So take charge and own your mistake, or at least stop pretending like you regret it while simultaneously bending over naked. Here are some shots from the LOVE shoot:

I feel like there could be so much more to talk about from 72 day marriages, to crack addicted NBA husbands, to a man who calls himself a “Lord“, being the most sane of the bunch. But like I said, it’s nearly impossible to keep up with the Kardashians. ♡

Post, Tweet, Share, & Like

Social media. It may be an addiction. My boyfriend told me the other day that I always have my phone in my hands. I insisted that this wasn’t true, saying that I only go on my phone when he insists on playing Xbox or watching the same reruns of Family Guy over and over.

Well as karma would have it, my phone broke the VERY next day. I felt instant panic. Was it my screen? The phone itself, the battery? Was I just not holding the “on” button for long enough?? Maybe it was low battery and I never noticed? No, surely that couldn’t be it. I spent the better part of the night trying various things, different chargers, battery pull, different battery etc. with no luck. Finally I went to sleep but the cravings to have a phone didn’t stop there. I woke up the next morning in just as much panic. I still had well over a year left on my three year contract, and I was pretty sure my warranty was up (I obviously couldn’t call to find out). I brought my phone to the nearest cell phone repair shop to access the damages. They confirmed that my power button was broken and told me it would be $90 CAD to fix and they would have it for me in a few hours. PERFECT!

Lash Stash

Mascara is a must have for me. Even if I feel like putting on NO makeup, I will swipe on a tinted moisturizer, a few coats of a mascara, and grab a tinted lip balm (loving NYX Butter Balms and Chunky Dunks!). Here are my top four favorite mascaras right now.

From left to right: Urban Decay Perversion Mascara, Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara.

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara
This mini is from my Naked on the Run palette,  but I had such high hopes for this mascara, that I had actually purchased it in a full size combo pack with the mini Subversion lash primer, a few months before. This mascara is black, black, black. It has a very glossy texture and reminds me of the They’re Real! Mascara formula. What I love most about this mascara is that it remains buildable even after it dries, so extra coats are never a bad thing (even hours after your initial application). I loved this mascara so much that I also received it in the Urban Decay Little Perversions kit.

Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Mascara
This mascara has been my favorite for the past couple of years. I love it for a night out. It makes my lashes big, bold, long, seperated, and just all around amazing. I tend to layer this mascara over my Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping Serum to give it an extra dose of oomph. This is my go to mascara for any night out!! It will never flake or move. I have slept in this mascara and it looks the same the next morning, no raccoon eyes or anything (although I highly recommend you take your makeup off at night). Seriously, this mascara might not be waterproof but it will outlast you, I promise.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
This is my absolute favorite mascara to wear in the day. It makes my lashes so full and feathery, I love the touchable soft look that they give. This mascara will not last through any amount of sweating, steam, sleeping (raccoon eyes even after a short power nap), or basically any hard work. The staying power is prolonged with a good primer, but I find that defeats the effortless beauty that this mascara offers.

Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara
This mascara is my on the go wonder. It is perfect for quick makeup looks after a shower from the gym or for quick touch ups. It isn’t my go to when I’m applying makeup at home with time and abundant choices, but I love it for quick five minutes faces.

Have you tried these mascaras? Do you love them as much as me? Any others you think I would like? Tell me! ♡

Winter Essentials

I was tagged by Janet (janandjot) to do a wonderful post all about beauty & the dreaded Old Man Winter. I live in Canada, particularly by the Rockies. In the winter, we get these lovely things called “Chinooks” that bring warm air from the ocean, over the mountains, to my beautiful city. It isn’t unheard of for the weather to go from -30 C to well over 10 C ( -22 F to 50 F) in a matter of HOURS. That being said, my body and skin can take a beating over the winter months!! What a perfect post for all my fellow frozen readers!
The Questions:

1) What’s your ultimate party season lip product?
2) What’s your winter essential product?
3) What are you most hoping to see under the Christmas Tree?
4) Name one beauty essential that’s never missing from your bag during colder months.
5) What are your winter weather skincare saviours?
6) What’s winter going to smell like this year?
7) Is the berry eye the new berry lip?
8) What are you greatest winter indulgences?
9) Lush Christmas? Your top pick?
10) Name one (or more) random winter essential.
