NYX @ SDM = OMG

A few of my favorite acronyms in the same sentence. OMG. Have you heard?!? NYX Cosmetics is coming to Shopper’s Drug Mart! Finally. I cried over Target’s tragic goodbye. I hunted down Ulta locations when I was on vacation. And I stalked London Drugs NYX displays hunting for LE items. But no more! Because my favorite store and favorite drugstore brand are making love becoming one.

image

Rumor has it that Shopper’s did not renew their contract with Almay and instead will be carrying NYX Cosmetics in it’s place. I’m not complaining. Looks like SDM will also be carrying Joe Fresh cosmetic products in 2016.

With a rewards program like Optimum, I have a feeling I will soon be the proud owner of the entire NYX line. Are you as excited as I am?!?! I apologize in advance if you can’t get your hands on any because I’m pretty sure it will all be in my makeup bag.

April Showers, Topbox Flowers

image

April’s Topbox was a huge hit! And it was such a nice change of pace. Ipsy had some questionable bags being sent out, Birchbox forgot to send their products in the advertised Rifle Paper Co designer box, and Glossybox forgot to include the FREE promo code offer for new customers. April Fool’s or what?!

But Topbox was on point. Like they always are. I also received their bag FIRST this month. Speedy shipping is enough to make my entire week!! Topbox has been offering some seriously amazing Prive boxes lately, by I decided to opt for a regular Topbox this month.

Instead of the usual 4 items, we got 5!! All boxes included a mini Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration 30 SPF Sunscreen!

My Products:

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen 30 SPF – I already use this Sunscreen. I already love this Sunscreen.  And I already own minis. Basically, I’m super excited for another. I’m fair skinned so I always leave home with SPF!

NYX Baked Eyeshadow in Smoke and Mirrors – I love NYX lippies but haven’t tried any of their eye shadows. So excited to try this full size beauty! This specific shade is a silvery gray metallic. I love working with baked shadows, although sometimes they don’t come across as super pigmented. This shadow seems very sheer and shimmery after one swipe. However, the shadow is buildable, and a darker shade can be achieved with more layers. Using the shadow wet, did wonders for the pigment and intensity. With a damp liner brush, this shadow is brilliant for applying as a smokey liner.

Deborah Lippmann Luminous Nail Color in – My first Deborah Lippmann nail polish!! Topbox has sent me the most nail polish out of any subscription service I have had, but the brands are always high end (Deborah Lippmann, Butter London, etc.). This shade is the most beautiful aqua, teal, mint amazingness. It’s a mermaid in a bottle. Did I mention that this is also FULL SIZE!? Topbox, I’m loving you!

Matrix Style Link Gloss Booster – Matrix makes great haircare! I’m excited to use something from the Style Link line. I have been eyeing the Volume Booster. Although, I got the Shine Booster, it’s a great way to try out the line! Blonde hair can tend to lose it’s shine, so this is a great product. The level of shine is completely customizable. Plus, it can be used three ways! Mix a drop with your favorite product, layer on damp or dry hair, or use to soften hold while increasing shine.

La Roche-Posay Substiane Serum – This product is desined to hydrate and increase the “bounce” of skin. I have never tried any La Roche-Posay products but I have heard some great things. They are a Canadian brand that specializes in sensitive skin. I can use a wide range of products, but I prefer sensitive products, especially around my eyes. I’m currently loving serums and know this will be a welcome addition to my growing collection.

I absolutely loved my Topbox this month. So much so, that I opted for the regular Topbox again for May. If you are interested in getting your own Topbox, with 4 personalized beauty products, it’s only $12 CAD a month with FREE shipping. Unfortunately, they only offer their boxes to Canadians, currently. If you want to check out my past Topboxes, including Prive Boxes, Click Here. I can’t wait to see what is in store for May!

Too-da-loo Target

Target Canada’s liquidation has officially kicked off today, with up to 30% off. I’m actually pretty sad that Target is closing country wide after only 2 short years in business. They carried makeup brands that are hard (or impossible) to find anywhere else in Canada, such as NYX, Pixi, and Sonia Kashuk. Luckily, a few other select retailers carry NYX, but I am unaware of anywhere else that carries Pixi or SK.

When Target announced that they would be closing up shop, I went on the hunt for the Butter Balms (yes I was STILL hunting for them as neither London Drugs or Rexall carried them). I was lucky enough to track some down between two different locations. FUCK YES, SUCCESS!!

image

I picked up the shades Red Velvet (the original BB that I received and fell in love with), Parfait, Lady Fingers, and Panna Cotta. These were not on sale, since I got them before the liquidation started, but I knew this would be the last opportunity for me to pick these up in store, in Canada. I’m glad I didn’t wait because all of the best shades were picked over when I went in today.

Starting today (Feb 5th) Target has up to 30% off EVERYTHING, and that included cosmetics (YES!). Personally, I don’t find 30% off to be that amazing, but it does make the products almost as affordable as US prices.
image

I picked up a few NYX lip products that I had been dying to try since I’m so in love with the entire Butter line (balms, lipsicks, and glosses), as well as a Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish, and a Sonia Kashuk brush set.

image

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Wet My Thistle
Retail: $10.99 CAD
Steal: $4.89 CAD

NYX Matte Lipstick in Pure Red
Retail: $8.99 CAD
Steal: $6.29 CAD

NYX Xtreme Lip Cream in Strawberry Jam
Retail: $8.99 CAD
Steal: $6.29 CAD

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa
Retail: $8.99 CAD
Steal: $6.29 CAD

I picked up my first Sonia Kashuk product, the Instant Smokey Eye Brush Set. I’m a sucker for new brushes lately and this set had some interesting cuts. I love buying eye brushes for their contouring versatility. The smaller brushes are perfect for contouring details (nose, brow bone, cupid’s bow, etc.).

image

Sonia Kashuk Instant Smokey Eye Brush Set
Retail: $14.99 CAD
Steal: $10.49 CAD

These brushes are dense and full. I love this in a brush, as I find lighter, softer brushes can be tricky to use for darker, bolder eye looks. I also love that they come with a small zippered case, easy for travel, overnights, or to throw in your purse. The set comes with a card that has directions for how to use each brush, I however, make my own damn rules.

Are you running into Target to get some deals before they disappear from Canada forever?? I’m sure the discount will get bigger as time goes on, but everything was so picked over already, that I doubt the best of the cosmetics will last much longer. ♡

Getting Real with Rexall

I recently went to Rexall, for the FIRST time, as I had heard that they carried NYX products and I was still trying to hunt down the pencil liners and Butter Balms. I was successful in finding the liners (and on sale!) but still no luck in finding the Butter Balms (Click Here to find out where I finally found them!).

image

NYX Lip Liner (in Nude Beige and Hot Red)
Retail: $4.99 CAD
Steal: $3.99 CAD

I’m super impressed with these liners (which is proving that I might have an NYX infection, addiction, obsession). I own so many pink and wine colored liners that I was looking for a true red and a nice nuetral nude. After swatching a few shades, I finally settled on these two. The colors are pigmented and the liner glides on so smoothly (doesn’t pull on the lip at all). The staying power is great! The line stays even when I find myself needing to reapply my lipstick after a few hours.

But my post doesn’t end here, how could it? You should expect more from me by now. I found the clearance counter, the glorious display with all of the remaining Christmas gift sets. Oh shit. Oh yay!

KIT 3 Pack Blender Sponges
Retail: $12.99 CAD
Steal: $8.46 CAD

Some sponges. My dog thought my first one (Quo) was the most delightful new toy. It went missing after my first use (I left it out to dry on my makeup table). I finally found it under the bed with a nice chunk missing out of the top … now it was useless for anything other than a chew toy hahahaha (not really, it went in the trash). So anyways, that brings me to this purchase! 3 sponges of various sizes and shapes from KIT Beauty. I have never heard of this brand before so I’m thinking it is Rexall’s own beauty brand. The sponges feel soft and smooth, so far I have only used them to apply BB cream and blend my bronzer, but they worked wonders!!

Be Delectable by Cake Beauty EOS Hand and Lip Set
Value: $16.99 CAD
Retail: $14.99 CAD
Steal: $11.26 CAD

I love Cake products! I was quite upset when Sephora stopped selling them because I didn’t know where else to buy them, other than online. The scent of every product has always been so beyond delicious. I was thrilled to find a discounted holiday set that included my favorite EOS lip sphere of all time (sweet mint). This duo contains a hand cream in Strawberry and Cream, that I plan to use as an ultra nourishing body cream instead.

image

Nivea Personal Care Set
Value: $25 CAD
Retail: $14.99 CAD
Steal: $7.96 CAD

I love Nivea products!! They have always been my favorite drug store brand skincare line. I find the products are of good quality, for a budget friendly price. Nivea was a saviour during my years at university, the Nivea Soft Cream being my go-to facial moisturizer! I was thrilled to find this Nivea gift set for under $8 CAD. The set includes, Nivea Creme Care Shower Cream, Nivea Body Milk, Nivea Smooth Replenishing Hand Cream, and Nivea Invisible Anti Perspirant. The bag is just a bonus, plus it’s huge!!!

My first experience at Rexall was a successful one!! I definitely will have to visit again. But until then, it’s been real!! #peaceout ♡

NYX Niche

I might be a Sephora makeup slut. I might be a brand whore. But NYX has won my heart lately. Drug store brand makeup is not my typical go to, but NYX lip products are affordable GOLD. My addiction collection is quickly growing. Ipsy was my enabler, the one who introduced me to this obsession. I received a Butter Balm in Red Velvet in my December Glam Bag. Unfortunately, the Butter Balms are unavailable for purchase here in Canada, but I was able to pick up Holiday sets of the Butter Lipstick, Butter Gloss, and Chunky Dunks.
image

I got amazing deals on the Butter Gloss and Chunky Dunk sets. London Drugs had all their Holiday sets clearance priced!

image

NYX Sugar Rush Butter Gloss Set
Value: $23.97 CAD
Retail: $14.99 CAD
Steal: $7.49 CAD

image

I have wanted to try the Butter Glosses after hearing so many good thing about them and loving the Butter Lipsticks so much. This set includes the shades, Sugar Cookie (bright fuchsia), Cupcake (hot coral pink), and Cherry Pie (bright red). It was a no brainer to pick up this set. These glosses retail for $7.99 CAD each or you can get the set, with all 3, for $7.49 CAD. The glosses themselves are buttery (as the name implies) and smooth, not at all sticky. I was surprised at the pigment in these glosses, they give a beautiful color and are definitely not sheer.

NYX xoxo Chunky Dunk Hydrating Lippies
Value: $31.96 CAD
Retail: $15.99 CAD
Steal: $9.99 CAD

image

These were as close as I could get to tinted lip balms. This set includes the shades: Pink Bikini (bubblegum pink), Cherry Smash (bright red), Hibiscus Tea Punch (mauve), and Caramel Martini (caramel). These wear very sheer to the touch and are moisturizing. I actually love the pop of color that these add, just a little something. They are perfect for a carefree, low maintenance makeup look. This set was again a steal at under $10 CAD for all four lippies.

Am I the only one obsessing with NYX lately? Unfortunately, this brand is hard to come by in Canada. I’m already looking forward to summer US road trips so I can stock up in all my favorite goodies!

Oops I Did It Again

I couldn’t help myself. I had to go back and get the light NYX Butter Lipsticks set “True Love“. For only $11.24 CAD I just couldn’t pass it up ($26.97 CAD value).

I loved the The Balm Shady Lady Volume 3 palette that I picked up, so I did some research into the other three volumes. I was thrilled to learn that the original Shady Lady palette was also on sale for only $14.99 CAD (retail $44 CAD) at London Drugs! There was only ONE left in my city, but luckily it wasn’t too far away.

image

The Butter Lipsticks are much lighter than any colors I own. They are perfect for an array of daytime makeup looks, for a night out however, I prefer something much more bold. The set includes the shades Snow Cap, Candy Buttons, and Taffy.

image

I love that the Shady Lady (Volume 1) palette is leopard print! I’m a sucker for animal print in general, but leopard is just that cherry on top. This palette has a few more neutral shades compared to the Volume 3, which I’m super excited about. The colorful shades will compliment and work well with the colors in the Volume 3 palette!

image

These shadows are just as pigmented as the other The Balm shadows that I have tried. They are very buildable and fallout is minimal. I’m so happy I decided to pick this one up as well.

image

Here is a comparison of the Shady Lady Volume 1 (left) and Shady Lady Volume 3 (right).

image

Right now London Drugs has discount on almost all of their holiday sets and luxury cosmetics (including $20 CAD off any $100 CAD luxury cosmetics purchase). This includes the Shady Lady Volume 2 palette at $35.20 CAD. I have yet to track down the Shady Lady Volume 4  palette. It is mainly a neutral palette and that is a must have!!! Maybe it isn’t available anymore?!

Are you taking advantage of holiday sets? Have you found any amazing deals?

Drugstore Daydream

Can I really call myself a makeup junkie if I just recently learned about brands like NYX and The Balm? Thanks to ipsy and Topbox for the introductions, it was the beginning of a hot and heavy love affair. I’ll be honest, I am a makeup snob. When I want to try a new product, I head straight to the closest Sephora, not the makeup aisle of the drug store. I mean, I wasn’t always like this. In junior high school my makeup obsession began with Lip Smackers. By high school I was fluent in the language of Maybelline and Loreal. Once I graduated and started making decent money, I stepped my makeup game up and became a permanent member of the Sephora cult. And I haven’t looked back, at least until beauty subscriptions started introducing me to new, high quality, “drugstore” brands!

First, I received a sample of The Balm Cosmetics How ‘Bout Them Apples Lip and Cheek Cream Palette in my October Topbox. I received the shade “Pie” and loved it (more for my lips than my cheeks though)!! This led me on the hunt to find some more The Balm products. I finally found them at London Drugs, and picked up a plumping lipgloss, Plump My Pucker in Spike My Punch that was 50% off! Once again, I was impressed and mentally added The Balm to my list of brands to love. The price of The Balm products is not actually that cheap. It might be a “drugstore brand” but at $45+ CAD for palettes, $20 CAD for a lipgloss, $30 CAD for a bronzer, etc. this beauty line is more luxury than budget.

Second, I recently received a full size of NYX Butter Balm in Red Velvet in my December ipsy glambag. I was instantly hooked and had to track down more! Again, London Drugs came to my rescue (I guess I should stop in more often!). The Butter Balms are actually back ordered here in Canada so I was unable to pick up a few more shades, but I was able to fall madly love with the NYX Butter Lipsticks!

While I was at London Drugs, I also checked out The Balm display and was delighted to find a ton of goodies on sale, including different shades of the Plump My Pucker lipgloss and some other amazing steals. Needless to say, my quick stop turned into a bit of a haul:

image

NYX had a ton of holiday gift sets available. And we all know I love holiday sets!! Especially since they are such a great deal!! They had a huge selection of sets with different shades and different products. I picked up a trio of the Butter Lipsticks.

image

This set in “Bombshell” included 3 full size Butter Lipsticks in the shades Licorice, Pops, and Big Cherry. This set retails for $14.99 CAD, such a great deal considering these lipsticks retail for $8.99 CAD each. But it gets even sweeter, because right now these sets are an additional 25% off, pricing the set at ONLY $11.24 CAD! I am so surprised by these lipsticks. They are true color in only one swipe. So pigmented. So creamy. So buttery!!

image

I’m actually thrilled with these lipsticks and might have to pick up the lighter trio “True Love” just because they really are that amazing.

Next up, I grabbed another The Balm Plump Your Pucker lipgloss in Water My Melons. This shade looks so similar to my other one, but it actually isn’t. This one is pink wih hints of shimmer (versus the non shimmer red of Spike My Punch).

image

This gloss retails for $20 CAD but was on sale for $9.99 CAD! I love that this gloss isn’t sticky and has just the perfect amount of tingling!

I also snagged this The Balm Shady Lady (Volume 3) eyeshadow palette for only $14.99 CAD (retails for $44 CAD). That’s nearly 70% off!!

image

The outside packaging is super cute, all four volumes of the Shady Lady line have animal print cases! What I loved about this palette is that it has alot of shades that I don’t already own. I gravitate towards nuetrals, and have very few colored shades. For $14.99 CAD, this was the perfect opportunity to add some bolder, more colorful shades to my makeup routine.

image

All of these shades were highly pigmented! Again, I was so surprised. They are not at all chalky and didn’t have a ton of fallout. Most of the shades also have an option to be used as an eyeliner. I’m excited to own such a vibrant colorful palette!

Last but not least, I got two free samples of ROC Pro Define Anti Sagging Firming Fluid. Because I am turning 27 after all! Haha!

Happy Friday Loves! If you need some last minute gifts I suggest you hurry hard and make your way to the nearest London Drugs for some fabulous beauty finds. ♡
