Life Happens

Shit happens. Life happens. Sometimes it happens all at once. Sometimes it happens one after the other. Sometimes it feels like it will never stop. But the journey is just as important as the destination. Sometimes things happen that we can not control. Sometimes it’s about letting go of the control. That’s my struggle. CONTROL. Control of my life. Control of my body. Control of my finances. Control of my time. Control of my emotions. When I lose control, I feel like I lose my happiness.

Happiness is about letting each moment be what it is, instead of what you think it should be.

That’s my problem, What I think it should be. I have so many expectations, of myself. But when life happens and alters situations, I have incredible difficulty altering my expectations to reflect the situation. When did the pressure to have everything “perfect” get taken so personally? When did I allow “loss of control” to equal “vulnerable”?

Sometimes stressful times need to be held. “Held” in the sense that sometimes we rely on others to carry our emotional burden when we aren’t strong enough to hold it ourselves. I’m a holder. If there is even such a thing. Maybe it’s the psychologist in me, but the people closest to me tend to turn to me first when times get tough. I can handle it. I can be honest. I can be blunt. I genuinely want to help be their emotional support. Why is it that I can be realistic with others, but with myself I’m lacking self empathy? Why is it okay for everyone else to be human, but towards myself I show no compassion? Why can I carry others emotional burdens but never expect anyone to carry mine?

Moral of this rant? When I’m find myself climbing a never ending uphill battle, carrying so much that I can’t possibly carry anymore, I’m going to stop beating myself up over the fact that my arms are full … and just get a wagon.

Let Me Take My Bow

The Questions:
1. If you could only wear one beauty product for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Mascara! It would have to be mascara! Even on low key days a dash of mascara is always a necessity. I am a natural blonde and my eyelashes are literally invisible, I dare you to see them! A dash of mascara does wonders in making my eyes pop.

2. What is your favorite cosmetic brand, it can be high end or drug store?

My favorite brand would have to be … this is so hard, that’s what she said, Too Faced!! I love Urban Decay and Buxom and Benefit and omg so many! But I think Too Faced would have to be my ultimate fav as of late.

3. Following up to the previous question: Do you prefer high end or drug store makeup?

Definitely high end. I have a few drug store favorites, but 97% of my collection is all high end makeup brands.

4. What got you started blogging?

A lot of my friends and family had begun telling me I should start a blog because of all of my deals and steals that I find. They also consider me the biggest “girly girl” of the group, and always ask me to do their makeup or for my product advice. The tipping point was when my boyfriend’s sister said “You really should start a blog”. I had recently graduated and found myself with a lot of extra time that was no longer filled with papers and essays. So ya, I started to blog.

5. What’s your favorite band/singer?

I love so many types of music! Jay Z and Queen B, to Swedish House Mafia and Bingo Players, to Keith Urban and Tim McGraw, to Rihanna and Britney Spears. I honestly can’t pick. That’s probably a good start though.

6. What’s your favorite movie?

Of all time? Blow. But in all honesty I have 100 favorites.

Lastly, we have the Versatile Blogger Award. I was nominated by the beautiful, Beautiful Beakers!! Thank you, girl, for the nomination!! I feel so blessed to have been nominated!

3. I’m obsessed with Elephants and have ornamental ones from all over the world.

Goodbye 2014

And just like that, another year has come and gone. We say goodbye to 2014 and look forward with optimism at the year to come. With my birthday right before NYE (December 30th) the new year brings the opportunity of a fresh start in many ways. New year. New age. New dreams.

Here is a look back at the start of blogging for me. It’s only been 3 months, but I am already hooked! WordPress does a wonderful little annual report full of fun facts. Here were my most viewed posts of 2014. Seems you all are just as addicted to Sephora as I am ♡

Here were the people who commented the most over these last few months:

Thank you, each and every one of you, for your support and for reading my posts! Jan&Jot, newkeybeauty, Amber T. (Sorry doll I have no link for you!), RollinginGlitter, and theworldofcos, thank you for being my biggest commenters!

Just for fun, I made a list of some of the most hilarious search terms I have seen so far. I love that WordPress shows you exactly how people find your blog (search terms used, referral clicks, etc.). What I love even more is all of these wonderful search terms, with what I would assume were very disappointed readers. What a tease. Click for boobs instead find makeup and beauty.

Aren’t some of these hilarious? I think my favorite is “lovely winter image with boob“. Because it isn’t a lovely image without tits, right? LOL!!

Soul Sister

Thanks to the wonderful world of blogging, I swear, I have met my soul sister. Basically, she’s the brunette to my blonde ♡. Let me tell you all about Janet, from Jan and Jot. This woman is beyond talented, not to mention gorgeous. And so crafty, she makes the cutest things! Janet sent me the most amazing early birthday gift (seriously, how sweet is that?). If you could put “me” in a box of goodies, she nailed it. Pink, EOS, shoes, leopard, Paris, lipgloss …

And she MADE the keychain. I’m trying to tell her she should sell them because, OMG how freaking cute is this? Tell me you wouldn’t die for one of these?

I’m almost scared to use it because it is so nice! You should check out her blog. It’s the perfect mix of lifestyle and beauty posts that she writes with her other half, Josie. I love reading all of their posts, especially because they each add a special personality to their blog. Go follow them now, you won’t be disappointed (janandjot or click the link above)!! And Janet, thank you my dear ♡ you made my birthday so special already!
