Last month I wrote about Shopper’s Drug Mart’s Super Spend Your Points Event. I redeemed nearly all of my points – 120,000 of them. I took advantage of both point redemption offers, earning me a FREE haul worth $290 CAD!!! All I had to do was pay the tax. I wanted to get some high end makeup with my points so I went to a Beauty Boutique location that carried one of my absolute FAVORITE brands, Urban Decay. Here is my haul!!
Isn’t it beautiful!? All those lovely FREE products. It was like winning the cosmetic lottery, you just walk in, fuck shit up, and pick out what you want – anything that you want.
What I got:
• Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
• Smashbox Double Exposure Palette
• Smashbox Try It Kit
• Biotherm Aquasource Skin Perfection Kit
• Biotherm Beurre De Levres Lip Butter
• Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation
• Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
• Benefit High Brow
We all know Biotherm is my holy grail when it comes to skin care. I firmly believe that my clear skin is owed to Biotherm. I started using their line when I was in my teens and I still swear by it 12+ years later. I recently picked up the Aquasource Deep Serum and fell so deeply in love. But I needed a lighter moisturizer for daily wear. I had been using the original Aquasource Gel mini that I had received with my Serum purchase (it has lasted me over 3 months and I use it EVERY day!).
I decided to stray a bit from my trusted Aquasource Gel and try something different from the line. I decided to try the Aquasource Skin Perfection. This moisturizer concentrates the equivalent of 5,000 liters of thermal spring water for over 24 hours of hydration. The retail on this jar is $50 CAD. For that same price, you could get the moisturizer combo kit with three bonus items. No surprise on which one I picked. The items included were a mini Lait Corporel Body Milk, mini Beurre De Levres Lip Butter, and a mini Biomains Hand Cream.
The second thing I purchased was a full size Beurre De Levres Lip Butter. I had planned to purchase this with my points, so getting an additional mini one with my moisturizer was a very exciting bonus!! I love this Lip Butter. It is very thick, almost like a cream in consistency. If you are looking for a gloss or (traditional) balm type lip moisturizer, this is not the product you are looking for. This is better for extreme hydration, such as an overnight treatment or a thin layer applied under lipstick.
SDM always had phenomenal customer service. Although EVERYTHING I picked out was going to be free, they still threw in some additional FREE samples.
Urban Decay is hands down one of my favorite makeup brands of all time! I love nearly everything that they create and I love their use of color, so vibrant and rich. If you can believe it, I own tons of UD palettes, but none of the Naked palettes. I knew that a Naked palette would be one of the top items on my list of things to pickup. I hated the pinks of the Naked 3 (I am fair skinned with pink undertones so I tend to stay away from pink eyeshadow) and I own an exact Quo dupe for the original Naked palette. That said, I chose the Naked 2.
These shadows do not disappoint. Like all UD shadows, these are highly blendable, pigment rich, and oh so gorgeous. The shadows are taupe and gray-beige neutrals, perfect for my fair skin. The palette includes a variety of mattes and shimmers. I love how this palette is so versatile. You can easily do a soft, natural eye or go for a smokey, dramatic look. There is a tiny bit of fallout with some shades, but that is easily fixed by using a primer, applying with a good brush and technique (think dab and then blend), and (or) doing your eye shadow before your face makeup. The shadows themselves are so buttery and soft. They do not crease, even when you skip the primer.
The Naked 2 came with four Primer Potion samples. The UD Primer Potion is almost too good. You need to be very aware of where you place your shadow as the primer will hold it strictly in place and make it difficult to hide even the most minor of mistakes. Blending can even seem more difficult than normal. The extra effort and time is worth it though, because your makeup won’t budge all night.
Lastly, the palette includes a double ended Good Karma shadow/crease brush. The palette is perfect for travel. The case is made of durable tin, with a satisfying click to let you know that it is closed. The included brush and primer packets make it easy to achieve any look on the go.
The next item I got was the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Roach. It is a beautiful deep copper brown with a hint of shimmer. This is hands down my new favorite eye liner shade. It can be layered with a matte brown or black for a more dramatic eye or worn alone with a pale shade for a bit of pop. I love love love the 24/7 liners. I already own a ton (Perversion, Black Velvet, Plushie, Stag, Zero) and I swear by them. They are beyond easy to smoke out (given that you do it immediately following application because the color will quickly set). And they are waterproof!! So go dance in that rain girrrl!!!
This is my first EVER foundation purchase!! Can you believe it? I typically use BB Cream. Lately however, I have found that setting the cream with a translucent setting powder makes my face makeup last longer (blush, bronzer, contour, highlight etc.). This led to an intense desire curiosity to try out foundation. The Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Powder Foundation was the PERFECT product to try!! This foundation can be used wet or dry and provides light, medium, or heavy coverage based upon your current needs. I couldn’t dream of a more versatile product. I can apply this lightly over my BB Cream or apply it with my future Beauty Blender for a thicker, wetter foundation.
I have wanted to try this for soo long!! I love Benefit Cosmetics and felt I couldn’t go wrong with this product. High Brow is a light pearl pink pencil that highlights. It gives the perfect edge to freshly sculpted brows. The texture is beyond velvety and creamy, so easy to blend. I’m so happy that I finally picked this up!
I still had to find a few more items to grab before filling my points redemption total. I’m always tempted by palettes because you get so much more for your money, buying eyeshadows individually can get insanely expensive. Smashbox Full Exposure palette caught my eye but the glitter shades looked chunky plus I had already got my nude fix with the Naked 2.
I decided to take the Smashbox Double Exposure Palette home with me. The concept intrigued me, 14 eyeshadows that transform into 28?! How could that not wet my panties grab my curiosity? The palette itself is gorgeous. I don’t own anything like this. I tend to gravitate towards neutrals with occasional pops of color. This palette has a beautiful selection of colors and neutrals making it very versatile for creating a variety of looks. The palette also came with a mini Full Exposure Mascara and a double sided brush making it easy for travel. The palette itself is made from cardboard with a magnetic closure. You would definitely want it in a cosmetic bag during any intense travel as the top doesn’t click into place (being cardboard) but rather lays flat to close.
I love how the palette is divided into cool and warm shades by the white and black shadows in the middle. On the left, we have cool, purple toned shades, and on the right, we have warm pink/brown shades. There is a nice range of shimmer, satin, and matte shades. These 14 shades are supposed to “transform” when applied wet. To be completely honest, they don’t transform, they intensify. This is NOT unique to this palette. All good quality eyeshadow should get deeper/darker when applied with a wet brush. I actually feel like this palette works best when applied wet; the shadows become highly pigmented. When applied dry, the shadows are a bit more sheer and alot more product is needed to build them up. I also found that when applied dry, that blending made some shades appear muddy (I did not use a primer). I haven’t had time to fully play with this palette, that was just my first impression. I think using a primer and applying with a wet brush, will make a world of difference. I’m definitely not “wowed” by this palette, but I won’t make any further judgments until I have fully played around with it.
The final piece of my super-spend-dream-come-true was the Smashbox Try It Kit. To be fair, I have already tried it all. But that’s why I thought it would be the perfect last item to purchase. The Photo Finish Foundation Primer is oil free and is great under my BB Cream and face makeup. It leaves my skin feeling so matte and smooth. I can’t wait to try it under my new UD Foundation. The Photo Finish Shadow Primer is awesome and really makes my shadow last and not move. It isn’t as intense as the UD Primer Potion, and makes blending a little more manageable. The Full Exposure Mascara has already found it’s way into my “extras” box. The mini shadow trio is beyond adorable and so tiny. I love the neutral shades, you can do a full smokey eye!! This little guy will fit perfectly in my work bag, makeup bag, carry on bag, gym bag … the list goes on.
Can I remind you that I got all of this for FREE?! Shopper’s seriously has the best rewards program in all of Canada. I love that you can redeem your points for anything! I recently learned (thanks to 3 Canadian Beauties) that SDM points can be redeemed at their sister store, Murale. Murale carries other high end brands such as Bobbi Brown, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and NARS. I think my next redemption will have to be a NARS haul!!
Did you redeem any of your points? What’s your favorite thing to get when you redeem? ♡
